dng to dng droplet?

scan film and save the image file as a DNG file (this way i can reprocess the raw scan data later in ACR if needed). my image management software will not read a linear DNG. if i open the DNG file in ACR and then simply save it back out, then my image management software *will* read it.

i'm trying to create a photoshop droplet where i can drag these linear DNG files and convert them automatically and i'm having problems. i can't get ACR to save the file back out.

go through the process to create the action: file open (select a dng file) and when it opens in ACR i go to "save" and then change the naming, etc. and click save. then i "cancel" ACR and end the action. no matter what options i select in the create droplet menu, ACR won't save the file, though it will open one.

i'm stumped. is it even possible to save a file directly from ACR without actually opening the file in photoshop? i feel like i'm missing something simple.

thanks
