Watermarking Postscript into a PDF (also posted on adobe.acrobat.windows)

I have a need to 'watermark' an image behind text in Distiller to recreate a
company invoice form. I have found the prologue.ps file and have tried
amending it to include the 'invoice.eps' file that was saved from an
'invoice.pdf' file in Acrobat. It rips and distils when the EPS file is not
encapsulated between
"<</BeginPage { ... } >> setpagedevice"
but doesn't show the background in the final PDF. If you add a 'showpage' to
the EPS included in the prologue you get 2 pages (as you would expect) of
PDF generated. However as soon as you encapsulate the EPS file inside the
/beginpage...setpagedevice you get a ripping error.

Processing prologue.ps...

Can anyone give me some pointer as to what I'm doing wrong? Or a better way
to do this?
I have tried using the invoice file saved as a .ps rather than .eps but it
makes no difference and I get the same result. As soon as I enclose it
within
"<< /BeginPage { ... } >> setpagedevice"
I get the error. Is it possible to just have the image as a Jpg or Tiff and
have it be 'called in' from the prologue file?
I am happy to send all source files to anyone wo wants to help me figure
this out if you have the time to look at it. If no-one here has the time to
help could you recommend a PostScript/Acrobat consultant in .au who might be
able to get it working?
