Gents, thank you for the quick reply.

Gernot, I am aware that ascii85 makes things a bit bigger, but that's all right.
DCT makes a big enough reduction in file size, so that I can affor losing a little in order to get printable characters.

This way I can put this stuff back into the file where the big asciihex stuff was,
add other things to it, the whole thing is manageable in an editor.

By the way, the filters work well separately, and with a bit of tweaking
I coan get what I want, I just need to construct an intermediate file.
DCTEncode creates a jpeg file, I close it,
I open it for read, and apply ASCII85.

But, according the Bible, filters should work in a pipe. My problem is: when I print the image, I can nominate the data source as currentfile with two filters and
it works, but when I try to construct the doubly filtered file, piping does not work. Or I missed a point somewhere.
Unfortunately there is not a single example in the Bible re how to do such things, one has to experiment a lot.

Thaks again,

Miklos
