Thank you Gernot & Aandi,

I was reading about analog video formats and about the need for
ycc to ensure b&w compatibility.
From this one could imagine that y was then something like the
gray level e.g. y = (0.30 0.59 0.11) * (r g b) a la NTSC.

This seems logical in that the biggest coeff goes to the
"weakest colour", the sum of the coeffs is 1, and one would
imagine that the actual weight factors could be obtained with
experimentation (or by some little theorem taking into account
the characteristics of the human eye).

But I was wondering how would anyone hide the three independent
colours into two chrominance variables; i.e. what is the rhyme
and reason behind the other 6 elements of your Cyr matrix?

Thanks very much for the clarification of RGB spaces, I must
admit I thought that there was only one. Mea culpa, mea maxima
culpa. I have a lot to learn.

Miklos
