Perhaps you could post (an URL to) a sample file that fails. Without looking into the code - and possibly trying it out on different interpreters, it is impossible to judge if oyu hit an architectural limit (like the max. number of nested gsave levels, e.g.) or if your job exhausted VM or disk space or whatever.
