Emdedding custom type 1 fonts into postscript

Hello:

I would like to embed a custom type 1 font into my postscript file. Since type 1 font is essentially a post script file in itself (correct?), I'm guessing I just cut and paste the *.pfa file inside the *.ps file. Is that correct? Can you anyone point me to some references/examples?

It would be nice to only embed the characters that I need and not everything in order to keep the file size small.

Thanks
