Aandi,

thats interesting:

"I agree. Well, unless the substitution font looks good enough, of
 course!"

Is it possible to prevent Reader from applying a substitution (fake)
font like a modified Helvetica for Gill Sans ?

"I want to test if an EPS will print - without involving PDF or Distiller in any way."

Yes, now I understand it. In a more practical sense, documents have to be
printed, not single EPSs. PDF is the recommended format (by prepress
 industry and standards, ISO-15930-1/2/3).
I dont want to terrify anybody by quoting ISO - just to state here that this will probably become common).

Best regards --Gernot
