Hi - I need to process postscript files in order to add some code that would force a HP printer to print from tray 2 for the first page and tray 1 for the remaining pages. Does anyone have an example postscript file or some example code that does this? Any help would be much appreciated, Thanks, Doug.

Tray selection is VERY printer specific, so you need the code for your exact model and configuation of printer. The PPD file for your printer is the place to find code snippets for these tasks. Aandi Inston

At least with newer HP printers, you may select paper by type instead of tray number.Configure your trays acordingly and select the paper by specifying MediaType in your PS job(s). For the details which media types are configueable see the PPD.

Thanks for the info. Looking at the PPD: <http://cvs.sourceforge.net/cgi-bin/viewcvs.cgi/*checkout*/lpr/ppds/hp/Attic/HP_LaserJet_8150_Series.ppd?rev=HEAD&content-type=text/plain> It seems that the following should do what I want: % use tray 2 <</ManualFeed false /MediaPosition 0>> setpagedevice % use tray 3 <</ManualFeed false /MediaPosition 1>> setpagedevice Problem is, I don't know WHERE in the postscript I should put these statements! Have you any ideas? I need the first page to use tray 2 and the remaining pages to use tray 3. Thanks, Doug.

These instructions may work by themselves, provided all trays have the same, default, paper size. Otherwise you also need to specify the paper size instructions. You have to put these before any marking operators on the first page to which they apply, since "setpagedevice" erases the page, and resets the graphics state. Aandi Inston

Great! It works. I put the statements just before the: %%Page: lines, and it works nicely. Thanks for everyones help! Doug.
