Embedding TrueType and OpenType fonts in PostScript output

I am writing software which runs on Windows and produces PostScript
output. Embedding Type 1 fonts is pretty straightforward. However, I
also need to be able to embed TrueType and OpenType (CFF and TT)
fonts, including those with CJK character sets. As if that weren't
enough, I want to subset the fonts, to avoid the large sizes required
for CJK fonts.

My questions are:

1) What formats should be used for embedding
    - TrueType Western (Type 42?)
    - TrueType CJK
    - OpenType Western
    - OpenType CJK

2) Are there tools for converting these fonts into suitable formats for
embedding? Can they do subsetting?

Thanks very much!
