Automatically Adding Text to PS or PDF

I'd like to add automatically text (generated at the time that the
files is imported, e.g. date/time/revision stamp and such) to
documents. We're currently use MS Word, but I'd prefer to use pdf
instead. So the idea is to generate the MS Word document, convert
(print) it into a pdf or ps file, importing the file into the system
with a stamp, converting it into pdf afterwards (if it was previously
a ps file) so it can be viewed by Adobe Acrobat Reader (would be great
it I could skip this step - however it appears to me that pdf files
are smaller than PS, which is a good thing ;-) ).
So I played around and printed the Google page into a ps file and
tried to add some text manually. It was working when I placed a
showpage at the end of my text, however then the other text was no to
see. If I omit the showpage, then I don't see the additional text.
Rather than modifying the file, I was also thinking of including the
file in a different file (ps or pdf in a ps file) - not sure if I
going to face the same problems though.
Obviously I don't want to go through the trouble of parsing the ps
file, but if there a certain procedure that I could implement - that
would be great.
I also looked the blue book for postscript, and it looks great and
easy, however I'm not designing a new ps file but try to modify (add)
an automatic generated ps file.
Anyone who could point me in the right directions?

Thanks,

   Marco

Hi Marco,

What are you trying to do that you can't do in Word before outputting direct to PDF? Word's ps output is ugly.

Cheers
