PostScript 3 Emulation

Hello,

I am curious if anyone can tell me if Adobe PostScript fonts will print properly to a Lexmark Color Laser Printer using the PostScript 3 Emulation, PCL 5c Emulation, or PCL 6 Emulation.

I had tried an Okidata c5150n laser printer a couple of years ago and that would not print Adobe PostScript fonts properly.

Thank you!

Lexmark printers do not have Adobe PostScript 3, but rather, an "emulation" of same that some users have reported to be fairly problematic, although generally, simple Type 1 font support is generally not amongst the problems typically reported. Multiple Master Type 1 support has been fairly problematic on those devices.

Thanks Dov,

Is there any Color Laser Printers you recommend, other than any HP printers, that work good with the Adobe Postscript fonts?

I don't have any luck with HP printers.

Thanks again!

One other question.

Any idea on how the Postscript fonts work with Samsung's (SPC-C) Printer Language Color Technology?

Thanks!

Oh, and I don't know if this makes any difference, but I am running a MACINTOSH System running OS 10.4.8.

Thanks!

Most persons who I know who use the Xerox Phaser color PostScript printers (they indeed have genuine Adobe PostScript 3) are fairly happy with them and are not known to have any compatibility problems. (Note that least expensive monochrome Phasers, model numbers less than 4500, do have CloneScript and should be avoided. For color, the all phaser models not less than 6200 have Adobe PostScript 3. Note that the Phaser 8XXX series are not toner based printers, but "crayonjet" sprayed wax printers.)

No idea about Samsung printers other than to say that they do not have Adobe PostScript, just CloneScript.

Thanks for the help!

I was considering the Xerox Phaser 6120n model. Which lists 139 Resident PostScript fonts and 81 PCL font and PostScript 3, PCL 6 / PCL 5c / PCL 5e Printer Languages. But you know, they don't state the word "Adobe" on this particular model... wondering if it was just a website typo, or if in fact it is "not" a true "Adobe PostScript 3".

Any thoughts on the Dell 3110cn printer? I hate to have to go with a "PC" brand printer, but if it really is a good model and has no PostScript problems, then I will.

Thanks again for all your help!

The Phaser 6120 does not have Adobe PostScript!

I personally have no experience with the Dell printer, although I know that (1) it does have Adobe PostScript 3 and (2) others on this forum and various mailing lists have been quite happy with the results using that printer.

For the record, there really is no such thing as a "PC" brand PostScript printer. PostScript and PDF are fully cross-platform compatible. The Dell 3110 printer has Ethernet and USB support that is fully Macintosh-compatible (I would recommend use of Ethernet). The lowest level Dell color printer (the 3010, I think) is a GDI printer; that printer is a Windows printer, the others aren't!

Thanks for the help Dov!

You've been a GREAT help!!!

I was a little leary on the Phaser 6120, when I saw it didn't say, "Adobe" PostScript. Plus the call from the Xerox representative on my answering machine trying to sell me the 8500. I am not interested in the 8500 wax printer.

"...there really is no such thing as a "PC" brand PostScript printer". I knew that, I meant a printer manufactured by a "Windows" PC manufacturer. Diehard Macintosh fan here! But then again, what Macintosh user is not a diehard fan???

Anyways, Thanks again! Looks like I'll be going with the Dell 3110cn model.
