Hi, We're trying to print postscript reports from oracle applications on sun solaris. We've setup a printer srw driver using psl180.prt and are calling default ppd. We've setup a printer called orangepdf. When we send the postscript report it always prints from tray2. Are there some settings that we need to make? Also, how can we obtain the ppd file for an hp9000 printer. I have installed the printer on our w2000 network, and have a ppd driver for windows but not unix. Thanks, Tracey

PPD files are not platform specific, so your "Windows PPD" should be suitable for a Unix program. Aandi Inston

Super! Thanks, I've downloaded the ppd file to my unix system. Can you tell me how to set the default paper tray in the ppd, for my hp9000 printer? I need to set up separate print ques, calling tray2 which is cardstock, tray3 which is another card stock, and tray4 which is plain paper. Thanks, Tracey

You don't generally set defaults in the PPD, that would be the wrong way round. The PPD lists defaults, but they are supposed to just be a reflection of what the printer's actual default really is, so the driver knows whether it needs to send instructions. Setting a default different from the printer's own default is the job of the application, which it does by sending the appropriate info from the PPD. Aandi Inston

Ok, then can you tell me how to call the specfic tray from oracle applications? I've got three reports, each will need to print from a specific tray.

That really sounds like a question for an Oracle forum, though I hope someone here has the answer. Aandi Inston

Thanks for your help on this issue. I did find information about setting up tray calls in configuring Oracle reports for printing.
