Combine two files with bitmapped font

Hi!

I'm now trying to find a solution to the problem of combining two
postscript level 3 files. First of these two files contains a few
lines and plain text that uses Times font. Second file contains number
of images and texts (using several different fonts). Dictionaries of
these two files do not have identical names.

To combine the files I wrote an utility that joins the prologs of the
files and uses the following algorythm for each page:

%%Page: 1 1
save
[code from the first page of the first file]
restore
save
[code and resources from the first page of the second file]
restore
showpage

%%Page: 2 2
save
[code from the second page of the first file]
restore
save
[code and resources from the second page of the second file]
restore
showpage

If a text in the second file is written using a truetype font or is
converted to outlines, then everything works fine and combined file is
printed out without problem.

Problems come up if a text in the second file is written using a
bitmapped font. In that case GSview viewer shows the combined file
correctly. But a sort of error occurs when the combined file is
printed out to a real printer (Lexmark Optra S 1650 Laser Printer in
my case): only images are printed out, second file's text disappears.

Question: have anybody faced the above (or similar) problem? What's
the difference (fundamental) between vector and bitmap fonts in PS?

Are there any viewers (except for ghostscript) that 'understand'
postscript level 3 format?

Thanks

Take care if the files themselves contain DSC comments. You must
either strip them or use %%BeginDocument: and %%EndDocument wrappers.
