Hi all. I have a copy of Premiere Pro 1.5, and I'm having some issues when exporting a movie. I have a pentium 4 3ghz, 1.5gig RAM, good enough graphics and audio cards etc etc. I summarize because I've never had problems exporting movies before. Anyway, I've made a movie about 13 minutes long consisting of approximately 18000 frames, including several sequences, some nested, some not. When I go to export the movie (using the default settings for the final file), Premiere gets about half way through the render and jams up. Now the process box is still on the screen with the time elapsed number still counting up and the time taken number counting down to 0 (when it gets there, it just stays at 0), however the frames rendered and percentage complete parts show no activity. It jams up on approximately frame 9800-9900 (tried it a few times and it was always between those values). Coincidentally I have a break in the movie just before the point at which it jams up where two sequences join, so I could actually export the former and latter halves as separate files and join them back together again in Windows Movie Maker or some such, but that's not ideal and I'd really rather not. Does anyone have any idea what could a)be causing this (as I've never had exporting problems before with pretty big movies), and b)any idea how to solve it other than the work-around I've come up with? If you need any more info, please do ask. Any help would be much appreciated. I've been working on this for months, and to be scuppered at the last hurdle is most annoying.

Use the Work Area Bar to span the problem section and test exporting just that area. Thanks for the swift reply Eddie. However, you'll have to excuse my ignorance. I'm new-ish to Premiere, so I don't know how to use said work area bar to span the problem section. But assuming I'd done that, how do I export just that section, rather than the whole movie?

When you export you have the option of "Entire Sequence" or "Work Area Bar". You will find links to many free tutorials in the Premiere Pro Wiki that will quickly show you how things are done in PPro. I have moved the work area bar over the apparent problem area, exported it, and it was absolutely fine. Exported to an AVI with all transitions, effects and filters in place perfectly. Any other ideas? I really don't want to have to go through the hassle of exporting the two halves and rejoining them in another program. Thanks again.

Jude, If you are exporting a DV AVI file, could it be that the drive you are exporting to is formatted as FAT32 instead of NTFS. There is a 2GB limit for AVI files on FAT32, which corresponds to roughly 9.5 minutes of video.

Thanks for the suggestion. However I've checked all my drives (after doing a massive defrag) and they're all formatted to NTFS, including the destination drive.

Have you tried exporting two halves, importing them back into a fresh PPro project and then exporting again as a single movie?

Not yet. Next on my list of things to try if this current full export doesn't work. However, good news - it's just gone past the 10k frames mark and still running, so it may yet work. Thanks again for the help matey.
