Since I had nothing to compare PowerRIP X with, I did a very basic comparison on an Epson 900 with plain paper at 360dpi with PressReady and a "borrowed" copy of PowerRIP 2000 on OS 9.2.2. This was using PR's ICC plain paper profile that shipped with the software and NO profile for PowerRIP as I didn't have the install CD and only PowerRIP X profiles are available on iProof's web site (which is one of the shabbiest, poorly laid out sites I've seen in a long time). At that resolution, which granted, is not terribly useful in everyday situations but often "telling" in terms of a RIP's qualities, PowerRIP's screening was better, color was closer and the general output was MUCH less grainy than PR! I used Epson's StylusRIP with an Epson 800 for a couple years prior to PR's release and quickly abandoned it for Adobe's product. Everything I output with it regardless of res or paper was oversaturated and heavy in the midtones.

Harron, I've used Birmy RIPs over the years and past versions up to PowerRIP 2000 were utter garbage. Although I never spent much time with v5.XX, everything prior was slow, buggy and tempermental. My understanding, although unsubstantiated, is that iProof ditched the Adobe PostScript model and used Harlequin Jaws with 2000.
