After faxing in a scan of my PressReady CD cover sleeve as "proof" of ownership of a competitive product, I've sprung for PowerRIP X, downloaded the ICC profiles, registered the demo, and begun testing with a vengeance. Of course a great deal of the stuff I want to print is in QXP 5 (wait, I know, let me pony up the $900 for the "yet undelivered" Quark 6 so I can license it on only one machine at a time - see the last couple day's posts on Macintouch.com - chilling) and I'm anxious to see text and color on various papers and resolutions. I'm trying some PostScript dumps out of Quark, jumping to X and ripping 'em. At first blush, as Guy Beckett testified, the RIP runs transparently and smoothly in the background, unlike 2000 for OS 9, is pretty fast (I'll throw some big files at it and see how it handles them) and output looks quite crisp at 720 on Epson's PQ Inkjet Paper using iProof's profile. So far, I'm fairly pleased but curbing my glee after over a year of emotional trauma from being shackled to OS 9.
