The Acrobat Distiller PPD should be the best choice. What might be happening is that GV is not smart enough, like Acrobat or Reader, to know what a word is, because sometimes what you see as a word on the screen are two or more objects -- "Acrobat" is not one object of 7 letters, it's an A, then a "crob", then an "at". But PPDs describe the qualities and features of a printer; they don't really drive this kind of behavior (whether words are split or not). I would venture a guess that a GV search of a Compaq-produced file will result in some "not-found" errors, just on different words. Have you tested it well? Is the Compaq really a lot better?
