David,

That (generic ps printer) printer instance doesn't support colour. You
must use (and create) the printer instance for the actual device that
you are outputting to. If you want to create PDFs, you need to create
a Distiller printer instance using the Adist5.ppd (or Adist4.ppd for
v.4 of Distiller).
