I tried the test files. Distilling the test .ps file (with Acrobat
4.05) produced this error message:

%%[ Error: TT3273O00 not found. Font cannot be embedded. ]%%
%%[ Error: invalidfont; OffendingCommand: findfont ]%%

Stack:

Opening the *.pmd file with InDesign 2.0 told me that fonts Arial
Turkish, CE and Cyrillic were not available, but the text defaulted to
displaying in Times New Roman, and the version I have of that is the
Microsoft TTF with the extended character set, so the east european
glyphs displayed OK. Duplicating the text and setting the font to
Arial (also TTF from Microsoft) also showed correct characters - or at
least I assume they were. They weren't boxes at any rate.

PDFs produced from both InDesign and MS Word look OK to me - I'm
emailing them to Daniel so he can judge.

Could I hazard a guess that the problem may be related to a clash
between the extended charater set available in the version of Arial he
has on his system and the one which comes with Adobe products? I seem
to recall a problem of this sort when I first installed InDesign and
had to mess with the Adobe font list files to cure it.
