Bah, semantics. :) I am referring to the PS driver installed by using the AdobePS 1.0.6 installer available from Adobe's web site (winsteng.exe).

As far as other applications are concerned:

* MS Word won't let you go past a certain page size (I think 22"?) even if the printer supports it, so that's a no-go.
* I can somewhat reproduce using Illustrator CS:

1. I change the paper size within the print driver using Printing Preferences. More specifically:
* Click Start > settings > printers
* right-click the Adobe PDF printer and select Printing Preferences
* click on Paper/Quality tab and click Advanced
* change the paper size to the form I made 2. I click File > Print in Illustrator CS and choose the Acrobat driver.
3. If I leave the paper size set to "Specified by driver" I notice that the greyed-out dimensions show width: 0" and height: 175.24 or something goofy like that (i.e. not the height I specified in Server Properties).
4. If I go ahead and print, the resulting PDF is 8.5 x 11, meaning that Distiller probably used the default page size specified in the job options.

* I have tried lowering the resolution to 300 dpi and it does not affect the maximum size I can successfully use.
* For grins, I have also tried increasing the PS memory value from 4096 to 16384.

I used a registry monitor, and I can predict whether or not it will work based on whether or not the Spooler service queries the following registry key:

HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Print\Printers\Adobe PDF\PrinterDriverData\TrayFormSize

(or for Acrobat Distiller, replace "Adobe PDF" in that path with "Acrobat Distiller")
