Don't worry Dov. If you have an Epson inkjet printer, it doesn't use a PPD under Windows, but the Epson driver. You can however buy a software RIP from Birmy or Epson that converts Postscript into printer specific language. For other applications this printer apears now as a Postscript printer. Therefor the RIP installs also PPD files that can be imported into Quark. MACOSX and Linux are Postscript-based rather than GDI. Therefor all applications produce Postscript. All printers appear as Postscript printers. If a printer is not a Postscript printer then its PPD contains a call for a driver. Ghostscript, the most common software RIP is used to convert each Postscript file into a Bitmap raster that will be converted into printer specific file. If you want to read more about it look at: <http://www.linuxprinting.org> <http://www.cups.org> <http://www.ghostscript.com> You can use a Linux computer with CUPS as a print server for Windows client. You would then install the PPDs used by CUPS on your Windows client.
