After having used the AdobePS installer (german version winstger.exe) pretty often on my XP Pro computer, today it didn't run anymore. Either the ntvdm process hangs or the setup program chrashes with an error message about an access violation. My solution for today is: copy the installer and the ppd files to a local directory and run the setup as the local Administrator. Hints for Adobe's analysis: I used to install printers using my normal working domain account (which has domain administrator rights!). There has never been a problem until now. That could probably have something to do with Microsoft's efforts to make Windows more secure. I do install the security patches regularly and recently noticed a change: When I now run a program from any non-local location (even a drive-mapped network share) I get a warning and the question whether to proceed or cancel. My wish: Please update your installer to a more recent InstallShield version or another 32 bit basis! The old IS 5 16 bit version is from the last century and definitely outdated! And installing custom ppd files is absolutely essential for PostScript and PDF production...
