PS file created with AdobePS looks like plain text file

I created a "virtual" PS printer using the default PPD inlcuded in the universal installer on a Win98 machine. This virtual printer sends its output to a file port.
The problem is that the generated output file is not a valid PS. The contents of the first lines of the file are:

@
CB

T
W0
H
5
P
BON PREU S.A. //Here starts the text that was printed
...
...

Any idea why is this happening? Thanks in advance
