I recently purchased a HP Pavilion XP computer and I'm trying to make by Laserjet 5000 postscript printer driver work right. I don't have available under the driver's "Graphics" tab the "Halftoning" option -- like my old Win98 had. I'm not able to control the halftone ruling in various programs: Acrobat Reader files print out at 170-line halftones, MS Word prints ONLY at 60-line. The only program that works properly is QuarkXPress 5. But it has the ability within the program to set the ruling. HP email tech says that setting the Halftone ruling from the printer driver is not available on XP, that the host application must set it. Well, Adobe Acrobat, Photoshop... DON'T have that ability. If this is "Normal" for XP -- then I'm forced to install Win98 in its place. Problem is, future programs are be released that will only work in XP and Win2000. IS THERE SOMETHING "AMISS" or am I just screwed?
