I was recently given an HP Laserjet 6MP printer with PostScript installed, but my friend wasn't sure of which version of PS it is. Drivers came with the printer and I used the Windows install wizard to place them, but I don't think it did the job, even though the printer is in the list, because when I go to print from Pagemaker 7.0, after selecting the printer, I notice that in the drop-down drivers slot there is only the Adobe generic PS driver and the Acrobat driver listed, of PS drivers. So my question is two-fold: 1) how can I check the PostScript version on my HP 6MP printer; and 2) how do I go about loading the printer drivers so Pagemaker will see them? Thanks in advance. -- Jonathan

The Hewlett-Packard LaserJet 6MP was the last monochrome LaserJet to have genuine Adobe PostScript as opposed to "clonescript." The printer in question has PostScript Level 2, but should be quite capable of printing anything put to it by any modern applications. In terms of drivers, you probably ended up with the PCL driver, not the PostScript one. You should download the Universal Adobe PostScript Windows Driver Installer from the Adobe website. Also get the PPD file for the LaserJet 6MP from HP's website (assuming you don't already have it). Run the Universal Adobe PostScript Windows Driver Installer, pointing to the LaserJet 6MP PPD file. Configure the printer driver, and you should be fine. - Dov
