I have some reports which print from VB. VB checks the driver to see if the printer has duplex and if it is set what it is set to before setting it based on which report is printing. Most of my windows drivers return the correct values and work great. For some reason no matter what my printer is set for it does not return a value. This is a minolta di550 and a Fiery X3 (pi5500). The old PCL drivers which came with the machine worked properly, the new ones do not, the PS never worked and now I am using the Adobe drivers they do not work either. Orientation is returned as well as Paper, Vert and Horiz twips, Scale top and left, Scale Height and Width. Why is duplex not returning values. Is this something no one want's to program into the drivers?

This forum discusses drivers for three different "flavours" of Windows Windows'95/'98/Me, Windows NT 4, and Windows 2000/XP/Server 2003. Which flavour or flavours are you referring to specifically? Note that there is not an Adobe PostScript driver for Windows 2000/XP/Server 2003. The driver that ships on those versions of Windows is the same driver that is included in the Adobe Universal Windows PostScript Printer Driver Installer. - Dov

<http://www.epinions.com/pr-Minolta_Di550_B_W_Printer/display_~full_specs> Postscript support is only optional. Your printer understands supposedly only PCL5/6. Adobe Postscript driver doesn't help.

I am using 1.0.6 I have tried on multiple O.S.. The driver works... I am having problems communication to the driver and returning values from it. Not printing from some box program but actually having the program force it to duplex or not depending on the print job. (standard features to the MS specs on drivers.. works great on all my other printers) This is a fiery X3.. of course it's understands postscript.. I'm not talking about PCL except for the fact that there old drivers (pcl) did what they where supposed to do. This is an interal programming issue to the driver from what I can tell. Not to the PPD or the Controler itself.

Then go into the BIOS and try different configurations of the parallel port. ECP, EPP.

Jeff, do you mean that no program can select duplex in the printer? Or that you have no other program to do it programmatically, but you can do it manually (printer setup), when it does work? Aandi Inston
