printing files as EPS's using PS driver

It says in the PS driver Help that I can create EPS's from other applications (word etc.), but I can't get it to work. When I choose to print to file, and choose the EPS option , I've still only got the option to choose the *.prn extension.

I'd be happy to just create a pdf and open that in Photoshop, but I've only got photoshop 4.0 which doesn't seem to like my pdf's either. Do I have to resign myself to upgrading photoshop or should I be able to create EPS's?

It's still an EPS, it's just called a PRN. Just as the best
description of a PostScript file is *.PS - still a PRN when the driver
makes it.

Right, thanks, but neither Photoshop4 nor Paintshop Pro5 recognise the PRN file type, and renaming the file as an EPS doesn't seem to work either. (Photoshop says it can't open file (renamed as *.EPS)because the parsing module cannot parse the file). I have managed to open the PRN directly in Corel PHOTO-PAINT7, so my problem is solved, but it would still be useful to know if this is a limitation of Photoshop4 or there is something else I need to do?

Ok...

They wouldn't. But it's just a name. Rename it.

Your tests aren't really valid, because these are not what EPS files
are for.

Photoshop can't open every EPS file. Unfortunately, it gives no clues
when it doesn't open what is the problem. Mostly it is designed to
open exported EPS files.

However, each version of Photoshop has been able to do more and more
EPS files. Photoshop 4 is very old indeed, in fact I think it might be
designed only to open the EPS files it saves.

EPS files are designed to be PLACED. Anything else is a bonus...
