Perhaps someone here can help me clear up some confusion. I am
considering buying a HP DesignJet 800, but I am unsure whether to pay
the extra money to get the Postscript capable model.
Our applications will be Windows 2000/Xp printing from Photoshop,
Pagemaker, and some AutoCAD. We don't really use Eps graphics and we
only use a few type1 fonts.
Am I asking for future trouble if I don't spend the (considerable)
extra cost for the PS option?
Thanks for any info

The printer works with HPGL2 and RTL. You can buy the reference from Addison-Wesley. This printer understands PJL and works under UNIX with Gimp-Print. I don't think that Postscript is necessary.

If you are using it as a proofer for pre-press work that will go off to press or for digital printing, I'd recommended it. Or for EPS. Or if you print from QuarkXPress. Also, may significantly speed up PDF printing (or not). Otherwise, probably not. Not needed for type 1 fonts. Aandi Inston
