I am experiencing errors when using a ppd in conjunction with the latest Adobe driver for XP. When doing page exceptions within the ppd, I am limited to a random number of exceptions. It seems to be very random. Page exceptions are defined as being simplexed, duplexed, color inserts, etc.. within the ppd. I've been told there are memory limitations within the adobe ps driver. Is this true?

There isn't really an Adobe driver for Windows XP. The AdobePS installer, if run on Windows XP, just makes sure that Microsoft's PostScript driver is installed. So, the software you are dealing with is the Microsoft PS Driver, in fact. Aandi Inston

After installing MS Office XP sp3 (on either Windows XP or 2000 pcs) we have run into the problem of Powerpoint files taking forever to print on either our HP LJ 4200n or HP LJ 5n printers using the Abobe Postscript printer driver. Pre-sp3 pcs don't have the problem. Switching to the HP PCL driver works. The same problem occurs when using the MS PS driver. Only Powerpoint seems to have the slow print problem.

There is no Adobe PostScript printer driver for Windows XP or Windows 2000. Although a copy of the driver is included in the Adobe driver installer, the Windows 2000 / XP PostScript driver, originally a joint Microsoft-Adobe project, is distributed and maintained by Microsoft. We haven't seen any particular problems printing to PostScript printers with recent versions of Microsoft Office or Powerpoint. Is there anything peculiar about your presentations, such as irregularly shaped images with clipping paths and/or use of transparency in your Powerpoint presentations. These two situations could result in Powerpoint generating ghastly GDI calls resulting in wretched and unwieldly PostScript that takes forwever. - Dov

I've had this problem with my HP8500 for years. To be precise: Some jpg files when placed into PowerPoint 97 or 2000 will take several hours to print. Size doesn't seem to matter. Printer has 512 mb ram and a hard disk. Problem occurs when printing locally or through the network. After wasting a lot of time with this, I simply will not use jpgs anymore, but will convert them to tif.
