How can I select a fixed name and directory for my printout in an automated process without entering text in the file window

How you print to file doesn't depend on the driver; it's a standard
Windows facility. Refer to the Windows Platform SDK, if you are using
that, or the documentation for your development evironment if it does
printing directly.

Thank you. But I am not aware how to do this configuration. My application will make a printout through the Adobe postscript printer driver to a port (file) every hour. Another application takes care about this file, rename it and moves it to another folder. But I'm asked for entering the file name in the text box. I don't want to fill in this box, but keep the file name and directory to be the same every time, so the application can continue undisturbed.

You should refer to the documentation for your development environment
or the Adobe platform SDK. If you let us know what you are
programming in, someone might be able to point you in the right
direction. Or, go to a forum for your development environment and ask
them how to print to file.

Nothing special about the Adobe PostScript driver. Printing to file
is the same for all normal drivers. There are no instructions or
procedures from Adobe, they are not needed.

You can do this by going to the ports tab for the printer properties
and select add a new port, select local port and enter the full path
to the file you want to write for the port name. Every time you print
your file will overwrite the existing one so you need to move it or
rename it.

If you want a more flexible solution then we have a product which will
let you select the path dynamically on our web site.

Thank you again.

My application is Vba for Excel. My code for the printing is

Range("A1:F63").Select
Application.ActivePrinter = "Generic PostScript Printer on FILE:"
    Selection.PrintOut Copies:=1, ActivePrinter:= _
"Generic PostScript Printer on FILE:", Collate:=True
    ActiveWorkbook.Sheets("SCAN").Activate
But how do I control the place, where the outputfile from the printer is placed.

Thank you for the clarification. I think the answer must lie in a VBA
forum unless someone here has an idea?

I don't know VBA for Excel well enough to say for sure, but in MSDN it
certainly looked as though the PrintOut method supported printing to a
specified file name.

You might want to add: PrintToFile:=True, PrToFileName="filename.ps"
to your PrintOut statement.

We are doing the exact same thing that you are doing and I had a similar problem a few months back. When you setup your printer, you want to choose to "Create a New Port" and then "Local". A dialog box will then pop up, type in the directory and filename to use, for example:

c:\myfile.ps

This should do it.
