I need to generate postscript files of some documents on a windows xp system. Can anyone tell me the process for installing a postscript driver in win xp? I've been thru the 'add printer' wizard - do I need to install it as a local printer? Do I need to install a ppd file? I don't want to print them, simply generate the files. Any help would be appreciated.

You need to know what is going to happen to the PS files. What printer
will they be printed to? Once you know that, you use the ADD PRINTER
icon. Install it on LPT1 as a local printer. Do NOT print a test page.
That's it; you can now print to file. This will make PRN files, but
don't worry about that.

Lee,

Yes local printer would be your choice.
Local printer --> when you have a printer connected at your local pc
Network printer --> when you want to print to a printer on another pc in the network

You can choose as ppd file "generic" which will do the job fine. If you create ps-files for a printer then you may ask him if you need to use the ppd of the printer (imagesetter, proofer, ...).

- During the add printer wizard you must select as port "file". By default "lpt1" is selected.
You can also change it afterwards:
- Start / Printers / Right click on the specific printer / select properties / go to the tab ports --> select "file"
- Or when you have chosen "lpt1" during setup you can still choose "print to file" during submitting at printtime in the print dialog box in the general tab.

Hope this helps...
