Hi all. In Windows 98, you could adjust the screen ruling for an AdobePS printer driver in the settings for the printer. I can't find it in Windows 2000. Is it gone? Is there some way to set the default screen ruling for a printer in windows 2000? Thanks in advance :) Andrew.

Sorry, just found another thread on this topic in the archives. Our client is using his HP4000 printer to output on thin paper which he then shoots to plate. He runs jobs from Word, Publisher, Acrobat, Pagemaker etc, and only in Pagemaker can he set the halftones. I'll have to suggest to him that he switches back to Windows 98 if he wants the half-tones to come out correctly because NT based systems can't set default screen rulings in the driver. Is that right? Cheers Andrew.

And the answer is still NO! Neither Adobe, Microsoft, nor Apple have any plans to put "global" screening settings back into the PostScript drivers. It was a big mistake to put them there in the first place because their use typically didn't achieve what the end-user thought they would get from them. Most desktop and network PostScript laser printers ignore such screening settings unless you know magic incantations that you mutter at the printer's front panel. For imagesetters, platesetters, PDF workflow RIP systems, etc., screening is typically a global or per-job option set at the console. - Dov

OK. Thanks for the reply. Is there a bit of ps code to send to the printer before sending a job so that the half tone is set? That may be a workaround.
