Printing MS Word docs with embedded PS created by generic PS driver

I've installed version 5.1.2600.1106 of PSCRIPT5.DLL (generic PS printer driver) for Windows XP. I can use it to print to my physical printer (HP LaserJet 4MV, with PS version 2014.101.45). I then use this generic driver to PRINT TO FILES from various programs (CorelDRAW, Netscape, whatever). I then embed these resulting files (which I name .eps, if it matters) within MS Word, which, amazingly enough, correctly previews them. However, when I then print these composite files to my physical printer (using either default printer driver or generic driver), the embedded PS text downloads (because the printer light blinks) but does not print.

Searching the Adobe knowledgebase, I tried the 328523 fix (updating the PS version number to 2015 in the default PPD file). No improvement.

Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

With the Postscript printer driver you only produce simple Postscript.
That is a page description rather than a picture.
EPS is encapsulated Postscript.

In order to embed the picture you must convert the file from
PS to EPS. There are PSUTILS from sf.net and Ghostscript for
that job.

For it doesn't make sense since you can copy and past the picture.
But attention! Word can't print if the resolution of a picture
is more than 300 dpi.

When you modify the PPD, you have to delete the old printer instance
and re-install a new one using the modified PPD. Just changing the PPD
does nothing special.

Also, a simply printing to a .ps file and re-naming it to an .eps file
does not create an EPS file. You should use EPS export or Save As
options from most applications (especially CorelDraw).

Thank you. Creating true EPS was the key. As it turns out, the printer dialogue, under PostScript Options, permits EPS to be enabled, which does the trick.

This does make sense, for example, when you wish to use scaling options in CorelDRAW's printing dialogue to render only a smaller portion of a larger image.

Anyway, the problem is now solved. Thanks again!
