I was having problems with PageBreaker 6.5, so I decided to update to the latest PS Print Driver from Adobe for Windows 2000. ARGGGGGGG! Worst thing I've ever done. I'm trying to finish a job for a client that sadly has PageBreaker and not Quark, but now, I can't print with either program!!! What went wrong?!?! Drowning in a sea of rage over this nonsense... The main situation is this, neither the default Adobe General Printer or the Scitex Brisque are working. Quark refuses to see my PPDs now, which I truly am confused by. In Quark only the 3 default 'Generic' printer descriptions are showing. I've checked the Brisque PPD file and it IS version 2, so it's not a problem with version 1 compatability. GRRRRRRRRRRR, ready to push my own eyes in to the back of my own skull in frustration desperately seeking advise, Steve

ALSO: There is no way that I can see to install the previous version of the Adobe PS printer driver so I'm completely down until this is solved.

Here's a moodswing for you, Yay! I have figured out what Quark needed, and that is now properly working. It seems the biggest issue is that deep within the System32 folder, the PPDs are now in a folder ending with a 3 instead of a 2... And now PageBreaker seems to be fine again. My solution was mainly to keep installing it and recreating my printers. Might as well delete my rants, I've figured out the problems already.

(1) PageMaker 6.5 is not supported by Adobe under Windows 2000 or later. PageMaker 7.01 supports such newer versions of Windows. (2) There is no such thing as an "Adobe PS printer driver" for Windows 2000. What we do provide is an installer to create PostScript printer driver instances based upon a PPD file you provide. We also update the system to the latest version of the standard Windows PSCRIPT5 PostScript driver (a joint project of Microsoft and Adobe). As far as QuarkXPress is concerned, you might need to place a copy of the PPD in its private PPD directory. - Dov
