Hi, I am very new here and dont know if this is the right group. So excuse me. I am trying to convert an ms word .doc file to .pdf. I have installed AdobePSGenericPostScriptPrinter. So I use it to create a post script file and then I use Adobe Distiller to make a .pdf file. All goes fine besides that I get only gray .pdf document. So what can I do to have it in color? Can someone help me please? Thanks in advance. Guka

Don't use the Generic driver. Use the Acrobat Distiller driver, which is installed by Adobe Acrobat. Aandi Inston

Thank you for quick reply Aandi. Where can I find the Acrobat Distiller driver? If I choose menu item Print from within the word doc I get only two choices: Canon (my own printer) and AdobePSGenericPostScriptPrinter. So I dont know how to manage what you saying. Guka

>Where can I find the Acrobat Distiller driver? When you install Adobe Acrobat 5.0 you get the Distiller driver. If you install 6.0 instead you get a driver "Adobe PDF" which is the same thing. The generic driver is not suitable for your needs. Aandi Inston

Sorry, but I still dont understand how to convert colored .doc file to .pdf. (Ik have already mentioned that I am very new in this topic.) I have installed Acrobat Reader 6 and Acrobat Distller 4. What steps I need to take to convert a colored .doc file to colored .pdf ? How can I make .ps or .eps from a word .doc in order to make .pdf with the Distiller ? PS: When I said Where can I find the Acrobat Distiller driver? I meant where in my pc en how to use it to make .ps or .eps file. Guka

>I have installed Acrobat Reader 6 and Acrobat Distller 4. Not Acrobat? Don't you have Acrobat? if not, which product did you install that includes Distiller? That makes a difference. Aandi Inston

I was hoping in this discussion to get help in creating a Word .doc file with color to a color .pdf. I keep getting in only in grayscale and can't seem to find where to make a change (or perhaps don't understand how to set it up correctly). All other programs I've used (PageMaker 7.0 which is the source of my Distiller program and PowerPoint primarily) pick up the color fairly well. Sunny

My problem is similar to Nichol's original--essentially, my PS print driver is "generic", which does not support color printing. I have both Acrobat 4 and 5 installed but no Acrobat ps (color) driver, and such a driver does not appear to be on my machine. A visit to Adobe support does not yield one that is compatible with WinXP, which is my OS. Any suggestions?

(1) Adobe does NOT support concurrent installation of both Acrobat 4 and 5. (2) The ONLY versions of Acrobat that is compatible with Windows XP are Acrobat 5.0.5 (a free upgrade from 5.0) and the three versions of Acrobat 6. (3) The PostScript driver used to create PostScript for distillation is the standard Windows XP driver. You don't need to download anything special and should NEVER create a generic PostScript printer driver instance for either generation of PostScript for a real printer or the Distiller. PostScript generated by the drivers in conjunction with a PPD file is very device-specific. (4) Full and proper installation of Acrobat yields a PostScript printer driver instance labelled Acrobat Distiller for Acrobat 4.x and 5.x or Adobe PDF for Acrobat 6. If you don't have such a PostScript printer driver instance installed on your system, you have a defective / corrupted installation of Acrobat. Uninstall all versions of Acrobat, reboot, and totally reinstall Acrobat 5.0.5 (or upgrade to 6). If under Acrobat 5.0.5 you still don't see an Acrobat Distiller PostScript printer driver instance, it is indicative of a corrupted Windows XP installation. See <http://www.adobe.com/support/techdocs/3099e.htm> for workaround information. (5) PDF files are created by printing directly to the Acrobat Distiller or Adobe PDF PostScript printer driver instance. PostScript is created and directly routed to the Distiller for processing. - Dov
