Windows 2000 Pro SP3 HP OfficeJet K80 According to HP the OfficeJet K80 does not support a Post Script Printer. However, I somehow managed to set up a Post Script Printer once before but for the life of me I can't remember how. I had to reformat my drive. Could someone please point me in the right direction as to properly set up a PS Printer and what all is needed? Screen shots or detailed (layman's terms) would be helpful. I've got to get this thing set up ASAP for my wife who uses FrameMaker and other Adobe products for her work. Remember, you're dealing with a newbie in this area. Any and all help would be appreciated. Thanks

The OfficeJet K80 is not a PostScript printer, that is, it does not support or understand the PostScript printer language. Therefore, it would be useless to try to create a PS printer driver for that physical printer. It simply won't work. Such a driver will create PostScript code for the documents/pages you're trying to print, and your printer will not be able to print it out. -- /Thomas Michanek, FrameMaker/UNIX/MIF expert Technical Communicator, Uppsala, Sweden http://go.to/framers/

Thanks, Thomas. However, she doesn't use the HP printer to actually print Post Scripts. She is using it for converstion purposes if I'm not mistaken. So it has something to do with using FrameMaker and converting it. Kinda like printing a MS document to a .pdf file? Needless to say this is an area I'm pretty ignorant on. Like I stated, the post script printer mangaged to get installed before and she was just whizzing away on her work with no complaints. Maybe it has something to do with the software? Perhaps having to uninstall/reinstall the Adobe apps?

FrameMaker needs a PostScript driver installed - this is true. This has no connection to your printer. You can have many printer drivers installed. Just go to the Printers Control panel and ADD the Apple LaserWriter IINTX printer. Do NOT print a test page. Do NOT make it the default. That's all. Aandi Inston

Aandi....curious. Found it but which version? v47.0 or v51.8? Also, do I need to have it set up to "Print to File", another port or build a port? The HP is on USB and have the following ports configured: Port Printer C:\Documents&Settings Acrobat Distiller DOT 4_001 HP OfficeJet K Series File: Generic PostScript Printer LPT1: Adobe PDF Writer

Aandi...did a test using the Apple LaserWriter II NTX v.51.8 printing to file a MS doc and had it saved to the desktop. The file extension is .prn and Adobe Reader could not recognize it. Would this process only work in FrameMaker opposed to MS Word?

Douglas, If your wife needs PDFs produced from FrameMaker then you must be using the Distiller Printer instance (not simply any other PS printer). The required PPD file is on the FM CD. Use the AdobePS installer and create a new Printer instance using the Distiller PPD pointing to the PDF port. Delete any other PS printers that you may have created. There is an article by Dov Isaacs of Adobe detailing how to setup and configure the Distiller printer instance and Distiller jobtions for producing proper PDFs from FrameMaker. See the FrameMaker Forum (Topic: Dov's Presentation from 2002 Frameusers Workshop) or follow this link: http://www.adobeforums.com/cgi-bin/webx?50@@.1de6dfdc

Adobe Reader would not recognise it. That's not what it's for. Nor would FrameMaker. The driver just has to exist. You don't have to use it. FrameMaker will make use of it, when you save as PDF. Aandi Inston
