I just got an epson stylus 1520, and i'm having trouble setting it up as a postscript printer. I downloaded and installed the appropriate drivers from adobe, but whenever i try to print PS, from say illustrator, i get what looks like a post script error (basically pages and pages of what looks like raw postscript code as text). the printer's connected through the paralell port and i'm running XP, can anyone help me set this thing up? any help would be greatly appreciated!

The Epson 1520 isn't a postscript printer to begin with, i.e. you can't send it raw postscript commands. You need to use some RIP software such as Epson's StylusRIP software, see http://www.epson.com/cgi-bin/Store/ProductQuickSpec.jsp?BV_SessionID=@@@@1614457563.1050689769@@@@&BV_EngineID=hadchcihfidibfdmcfjgckidnf.0&oid=1567225&category=Product&prevOID=10201 Alternatively, you can use something like Acrobat to distill the postscript to a PDF and print the PDF to the 1520? BTW, what printer instance are you using to create the postscript for this device now?

that would explain why the code was just printing as text, but i was under the impression that since it has the "Postscript" sticker on the front that it was the postscript-enabled version...i know there are versions that don't come with the sticker... also adobe has .PPD files for this printer. I guess they could be for use with the RIP server, which seems a little redundant (and wouldn't seem to need a driver?). I *believe* the "printer" that is selected when I print says something along the lines of "E/PS 2.0x". It indicates that it's using a postscript driver. any suggestions? thanks again!

AFAIK, the 1520 didn't have a hardware RIP. This from their FAQs for the 1520 at http://www.epson.com/cgi-bin/Store/support/supDetail.jsp?BV_SessionID=@@@@0417201828.1050710935@@@@&BV_EngineID=gadchcihfkdebfdmcfjgckidnk.0&infoType=FAQDet&oid=14435&prodoid=10201&FAQCat=General&FAQCursor=1&FAQTitle=Printer&menuSpec=15#q36: Q: Is there a PostScript option available for this printer? A: Yes, EPSON has an Adobe PostScript Level 2 option with Pantone approved colors. The option is called EPSON StylusRIP and it is available for the Macintosh and Windows 95/98. EPSON StylusRIP can be purchased through EPSON Accessories.
