Greetings. Would someone be so kind as to point me in the right direction. I would like to add a few fonts to a custom PPD file, but where can I find out what the correct naming convention is for type 1 fonts, are the correct names of all my installed T1 fonts allready on my PC somewhere!! hope this makes sense.... I have read "creating a custom PPD file" but the add fonts box is empty, when I use the update PPD 2.01 there are no fonts in either the add or remove colums. regards. Bob Mallet

I assume that you are referring to the utility program supplied with PageMaker. Quite frankly, that program is not a general purpose or even a reliable editor of PPD files. In terms of adding fonts to a PPD, this particular utility program only knows how to look at other printer driver instances for purposes of adding fonts and even then, only for Windows 3.x and old drivers for Windows'9x/Me that used the win.ini for storing font/printer information. A better question might be though, why do you want to add font information to a PPD. Our experience is that "printer resident fonts" represented by PPD entries are much more of a problem than they are worth. See my article at the top of this forum associated with the "Zapf Dingbats problem." If you really need to edit the PPD, you need to use an ASCII text editor AND you must have detailed information about the internals of each font that you wish to add to the PPD. Again, the real question is why would you want to do this? It generally provides no tangible benefit!!! - Dov
