Could someone explain why to use a PPD file, you must install it with a PostScript printer driver, such as the Adobe PostScript printer driver called AdobePS, instead of using the printer install process native to Windows (XP). Thanks.

You could use a PPD file with the native printer install. However, installing a printer in Windows XP is done via an INF file. You would have to create an INF file, that lists the printer, the location of the driver and the PPD file, and other things. None of this is impossible, but it is not very accessible. Hence, the AdobePS installer. In Windows XP the driver software installed is the same in either case. Aandi Inston
