Is there any way to keep Distiller from creating a file with the native application as part of the new name? In other words, I would like my newly created PDF's to say NewFile.pdf rather than Microsoft Word - NewFile.pdf Thanks, Tim

If you use the "distiller printer", as you obviously did, no. The file name is deduced from the Title comment in the PostScript stream the printer driver creates, and this comment contains the application name.

That's an interesting post: I have never seen that problem in many years of making PDFs.

The "problem" is application specific. It depends on what the application program itself passes to the driver as the spool name. The interface between the Distiller and driver does try to account for such silly application spool item naming, but is not always successful. I seem to recall the problem reported by "Not A. Fakename" in earlier versions of Acrobat, but not in Acrobat 5.0.5. - Dov
