Every time i try to print from Adobe Illustrator or Quark, nothing happens. I installed latest adobe ps drivers and i think job gets sent to my 1280 but nothing happens. If i use the regular 1280 drivers then it says "cant print illustration", but with ps drivers and the right 1280 PPD...nothing happens! why??? I dont want to get the expensive AdobeStylus RIP after paying $500 for this damn printer.

Let's see if I understand... you're trying to use a PostScript driver, but you don't want to pay for the RIP? If so, that isn't going to work. The driver isn't a substitute for the RIP, you need both! Aandi Inston

The basic Epson 1280 printer is not a PostScript printer. Unless you buy the RIP to enable PostScript, using the driver for that RIP won't do anything for you! - Dov

damn, I guess it's really a $650 printer then, not $500. They try to squeeze out some cash out of you any way they can. And Epson Customer service is horrible. I had to dial long distance to other coast.

Why do you need PostScript? Some people do, but not everyone. Aandi Inston

I just talked to other people in my college who have the same printer for both PC and Mac. All of them can print from Illustrator and Quark without the RIP. They said postscript makes it look better, but u dont need it to print. Quark prints look bad but their Illustrator prints look great. Could something be wrong with my printer, or perhaps the software? I need to know before warranty expires.

The printouts should look pretty much OK, so long as you never use "EPS" file format. EPS is only suitable for PostScript printers. Aandi Inston
