When using RGB, CMYK or LAB the layers controlling each individual channel appear to be locked. I can neither paint nor paste into these channels. If I create another channel (alpha - new channel) in this palette, I can both paint and paste into this. Is there a away to unlock colour channels? And no, the image is in 8-bit data, not 16 - so it isn't that.

The issue is associated with transparency. When opening a new document check white or background colour rather than transparent. It is not possible to paint or paste another image into a colour channel if the base image, (combined channels), is transparent. If you want to use the channels palette to fill transparent areas, the solution is to place a white layer beneath the masked layer. If swapping channels from RGB to CMY, make sure the new file has a white background rather than a transparent one.

Daniel, Your question has nothing to do with postscript printers. Please repost your question in the appropriate forum for the application you are using. ...Mike
