Hi, I use the universal postscript drivers V1.0.6. When accessing a local printer all property - submenues will work very well. Whem accessing a network printer my Explorer crashes and all windows are closed. This happens always when accessing the document settings to print landscape. The Testpage is running and prints from Winword are running too, so it isnοΏ½t a general printing problem. The crash is reproducable on several Workstations. I use an linux SAMBA - server sharing the printers and the client is a Win2000 SP3. Is there an false configuration or an update to fix the problem ? MfG Matthias Munzinger

I have exactly the same problem on WinXP and Samba. Did you ever find a solution?? MfG Michael

Well, I found out it's in the PPD files. Replacing the Linux PPD files with ones generated from WinXP, the settings can be accessed. Unfortunately, the printer then prints about 50 pages of crap instead of the document. Not very nice if the server room with the printer is a little way off. Is there anyone with experience who would like to take a look at the PPDs?? thx, Michael

What is the first few lines of what is printed? It is unlikely to be a PPD problem at this point. Aandi Inston

I finally got it working!!! After taking the PPD file generated by XP and replacing the one from CUPS I was able to configure the printer correctly, add it to Samba and now it is working. Great!! I found out that the Cups-o-matic generated PPDs will all cause the crash, while CUPS native ones are working ok (it is also ok to setup the printer as a HP Laserjet CUPS 1.1 for example). The problem I described above was probably caused by inconsistencies between the CUPS PPD and the one I offered via Samba (stupid, I know). Thanks anyway, Michael
