Setting up a new Pre-Press workstation running Win2000 Pro, I've run into a problem. All documents printed to the Linotype Quasar are postscript erroring. The imagesetter consists of 3 machines, The imagesetter, the Delta Tower Rip, & an NT workstation which I believe is just the printer Que for the Rip.

Reading up on the postscript capabilities of Win2000, this appears on Adobe's Website to download the Drivers, "This version of the AdobePS printer driver does not work with PostScript Level 1 devices, and does not work with Windows NT 3.5x."

Does this mean that since the printer que that is in-line for the Quasar is running NT 3.1 or 3.5, that the printer file that is sent from a Win2K machine is incompatible?

If it is indeed so, can I install an older version of the Quasar printer drivers as well as an older version of Adobe's Postscript Printer on Win2000 & retain the Level 3 for all other printers in shop?

AFAIK, the Delta RIP runs on NT4 at least, except your boxes are "centuries" old. But could you post an URL to a sample file and post the error messages, please?

Thanks for the Reply. by luck the Imagesetter broke down the day after I posted this, I asked the tech if the NT 3.51 station was compatible, of course he didn't know much about the software side. So after a week of phone tag we have discovered that indeed NT 3.51 is incompatible with Postscript Level 3 & that the upgrade to Level 3 is around $12,000 US.

The big whopper is Heidelberg is coming out with a replacement for Delta based on Win2K or XP, since NT4 is getting old. So the bosses are mulling over wait for the new or by the current NT4 system since it is field tested.

I experienced a simular problem on an old system with 13 clients and one server running win nt3.51. We needed to save the data and the best option was to PDF the data. We tried version 4.0 and it would not load, our IT department located an full version copy of Acrobat 3.01 and that worked.
