Sorry about the long post but I wanted to impart what knowledge I had on a previous post. I am unsure about how to recover the previously used dialog but I can see if I can find a way. I am currently using Acrobat 8 and I am quite happy with the upgrade. I wanted to briefly offer advice on the issue where Reader 8 is opening instead of Acrobat. When you installed Reader with Acrobat 7 or 8 on your machine Reader should prompt you which version of Acrobat you desire to open by default. When you select Reader it will open with Reader when you double click. If you right click on a PDF file and instruct it to open in Acrobat (rather than Reader) and Reader still launches it is probably because Reader is still running (either in the background or actively.) There are a number of reasons this can occur but by default only Acrobat or Reader can be running at a time. I wanted to explain a few of those reasons, show you how to identify if Reader is running in the background, and explain a workaround. Typically you would encounter this situation if a PDF was opened via a website. Even after closing the PDF Reader stays resident in the background for a period of time to increase performance if you opened another PDF file. After 5-10 minutes it should automatically close. Another reason may be that you have Reader open to view a PDF file. Any other PDF file you attempt to open with launch through Reader not Acrobat. They share common resources that can impair performance on a machine so are designed to not run at the same time. You can determine is Reader is running by viewing your Process tab within the Task Manager. You can access it by pressing Cntrl+Shift+Esc and then clicking on the Processes tab. Look in the list of processes for AcroRd32.exe (for Reader) or Acrobat.exe (for Acrobat.) You can end these processes and then right click to open the PDF file in which ever program you chose. Finally a workaround I am aware of. As I mentioned before they are not designed to run at the same time but they can be configure to run simultaneously. To do this create (or use the one that is already there) a shortcut to Acrobat.exe or AcroRd32.exe. (These will launch the application.) Right click on the shortcut and select properties. In the target dialog a path is present to Acrobat or Reader. Add a /n to the end of the path and click OK. The path should appear as '"C:\Program Files\Adobe\Acrobat 7.0\Acrobat\Acrobat.exe" /n' without the single quotes. When you double click on the shortcut it instructs Acrobat or Reader to launch as a new process and will create a separate instance with its own resources. This will allow you to run Acrobat and Reader simultaneously. It is not an incredibly fluid workflow though. I hope this information sheds some light onto the previous confusion and perhaps helps a little.
