PC info:
HP Pavilion 3.20 gigahertz Intel Pentium 4
2048MB PC2-4200 DDR2 SDRAM memory
Windows XP Media Center Edition (SP2)

Adobe Reader 8.0 Update Problem History:
1. Adobe Reader 7.0 was installed on my PC when I purchased it
2. Adobe Reader started an auto update that was halted in process
because my PC was powered off accidently.
3. I then started getting a message that the update was not complete
and did I wish to continue. When I continued, I got a message
indicating that I had a duplicate file name, did I wish to replace it.
    I said yes.
4. I then got a message indicating that my update was waiting
for internet connection (I have a broadband cable connection
    which is always on).
5. I tried removing Adobe Reader through the Control Panel
"Add/Remove" panel, and then downloading and installing the latest Adobe Reader 8.0
from the Adobe web site. I got the same results as above.
6. I then tried removing the Adobe Download Manager 2.2
    and tried the installation again.
7. I continue to get the "Waiting to reconnect" message when I try to install Adobe Reader
