can't install the latest adobe reader version

after i've downloaded the latest version of adobe reader
after the download is complete when i try to install it, the installation program comes up and it is just closing down even with no error notifications i've tried to download it again but it seems to be consistent what can i do to resolve this? have windows xp sp2 operating system p2 computer with 350MHZ of speed and
500MB available Disk Space
