Hi,

Right now I am stuck between a 'rock and a hard one'.

I haven't had the opportunity to use my Adobe Reader since I did a System restore about 2 weeks ago. Today I tried using a web site where I needed the reader and I got an Internet Explorer message saying the add-on' (adobe) wasn't working.

For background I am using a Compaq Presario AMD Athlon(tm) 64 Processor 3300+, 2411MHz/960 RAM, running Windows Xp Home Sp#2, using IE7.

Right before having to do a system restore for a completely unrelated matter I had updated Adobe Reader from 7.0.8 to the new 8.0 version and everything worked just fine.

Today is the first time I have needed it since I updated the program and also since I was forced to do the system restore.

To try to make a long story short when I discovered it wasn't working today I checked in my Add/Remove Programs and discovered the Program was listed as Adobe Reader 7.0.8 not as 8.0 which had been the case after the successful update a few weeks back.

The error Message I received today when trying to use the program said:

" ...Error 1714: The older version of Adobe Reader 8 cannot be removed. Contact your technical support group..."

I can't use system restore to take it back to my 7.0.8 settings because those restore points have been deleted.

Any ideas how I can get a working Reader again?
