I am trying to install reader 5.1 on a laptop running XP. The installation starts without error, but very early into the installation it is interrupted. The error message says Acrobat cannot update the registry. When I click OK, the installer shuts down. Prior to installing 5.1, I had removed 7 using Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs. I had also deleted the keys from registry and restarted the workstation. When the error occured, I found a key had been created for 5.1 in the registry along with a folder in Program Files. I uninstalled Reader, deleted the key and folder, restarted the computer and tried again. No change. Scanned for spyware using Ad-aware, Spybot, hijack-this, removed all malicious files and tried again but had no luck. Anyone have any thoughts about what could be causing this and how to fix?
