I originally posted this in another thread, but felt it deserved its own: I designed a small GUI frontend for a documentation CD. From the GUI the user can launch either individual pdf files or pdx files that are indexes of selected groups. For example, Product A has 5 different pdf guides. The user can launch any of the 5 guides individually, or launch a search index of all 5 docs. The index files were created with Acrobat Pro 7. All pdfs launch correctly in Reader for all users. The pdx files, however, launch on all systems that have Acrobat Pro 7 (only version we are running), but only launch on some systems running Reader alone (I have tried both Reader 7 and 8. I am not sure what the differences are between the systems (all are Windows XP Pro), but the ones that can't launch the pdx get the same error message: "This file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action. Create an association in the Folder Options control panel." In all cases the file association is set correctly for PDX type and in all cases the file launces correctly when the user double-clicks on it outside the GUI. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. This is getting very frustrating to say the least.
